1st Half:...game starts 3:07pm...MFA defends north end on this overcast and cold day. There's a strong wind from the northwest. Since I was behind the table top scoreboard, all times are converted from my wristwatch.
There's a delay to the start of the game as the game officials pull on blue pinnies to stop any confusion with MFA players who wear black tops.
2 min...DUFC Mikle-Ryan heads ball back to goalie to prevent MFA Dimitriu from breaking into the box.
5 min...DUFC Dumevski 30 yard freekick from far right has MFA Kenlock head ball away at 12 yards.
7 min...MFA goalie drifts wide left to pick up bouncer sent in from 25 yards.
8 min...MFA Mirzazadeh clears ball away from DUFC Sutherland at 20 yards on left.
9 min...DUFC Lord low freekick from 28 yards on left is cleared for quick breakout. MFA Dimitriu is bumped over on edge of box to clear.
11 min...the game officials now change from blue to red coloured pinnies supplied by DUFC to make it easier to differentiate them further from MFA players black shirts.

Halftime Entertainment: There's a presentation to Masters FA assistant coach Junior Groves. He came to Canada in 1982 and there were intros to two pillars of the Jamaican-Canadian community who helped him get started--Patrick 'Schedule' Smith and Derrick 'Mello' Melvin. Groves was presented with a gift from the Jamaican Ambassadors--a team from New York City represented by Leonard 'Chicken' Mason.

Attendance was about 70 on this cold afternoon, mostly overcasts but a few times when a bright warming sun was out.

Referee Brian Butler gave out five cards during the game but the two to DUFC were both to Taylor Lord within a 12 minute span near the start of the second half. The officials wore all black uniforms but that was a conflict with Masters who had black shirts. That actually delayed the start of the game until the officials were given blue pinnies. After ten minutes DUFC complained that still wasn't easy to see so they offered them some of their own red pinnies. One freekick 30 yards from goal had the player instead of kicking it upfield to the edge of the box, he decided to cross and the ball hit the referee in the side who was looking upfield to watch for action and bounced back for the player to try again.

A good chance for DUFC at the beginning of the second half had Joseph Roccasalva pass forward to David James and his 15 yard shot from the left had the goalie get a hand to and swat wide of the top right corner.

71 minutes had MFA almost put the game away instead of finishing as a nail biter when DUFC goalie Eugen Alves made saves on Michael Themelis and then Themelis shot a rebound off the post. Alexancer Dimitriu then had two more shots that goalie stopped.

Masters FA record improves to 5 wins, 1 tie, 9 losses and moves into a tie for fifth place although that's without me knowing if Windsor earned any points in their game today. DUFC's record falls to 2 wins, 4 ties, 7 losses and they stay in eighth place.

Masters FA won their home game last Saturday 2-0 against Windsor Stars and I saw them on the Wednesday before that in a Cup game where they beat Sigma FC 2-1. (there scheduled Cup game last Wednesday against Vaughan Azzurri was rained out). I asked assistant coach Junior Groves after the game what has made such an improvement from games I saw them play at the beginning of the season when they were beaten 5-1 and 5-0 in weeks 3 and 4. He said at the beginning of the season it was like their pre-season. They were still holding tryouts. It's been playing together that's made them better. Their roster today had ten players of eighteen from that 5-0 loss back in mid-June.

So I have plans to see tonight's game in Mississauga but I will detour home to get my parka first.
