July 29, 2014 League 1 Ontario--Player of the Week Le Rohne Young (from League 1 Ontario website)
Player of the Week - Le Rohne Young . Tue Jul 29 Written By: Rollins, Duane Le Rohne Young doesn't want to talk about his hat-trick against the Windsor Stars in matchweek 8, even though the goals paced Durham United to a 4-2 win over the previously undefeated Stars, a team that had the best defensive standing in the league prior to the game. If forced to address it, Young will simply defer to his team. "It was just a total team effort," he said. "One of (the goals) was off a rebound, I just happened to be the one who scored." For Young the result was another example of his Durham United team coming together after a difficult start to its first season. "We're a new team," he said. "We didn't come together until May, which was late... but we're really coming together now." Young says the key to Durham's form is a strong team concept. Everyone gets along, and that's made training a joy to be a part of. Going into the year Young knew Durham would be overmatched technically by more established clubs, but felt that the athleticism of United would help bridge the gap. "It's been a great experience," he said. "We're able to compete athletically and getting better technically." Young says he hopes that League1 will be a springboard to his career. However, in the meantime, he's focused on fully enjoying the rest of this first season. "The league is such a great opportunity for Canadian coaches and players. It gives us a chance to be seen and to hopefully move up. Every player dreams of going far. League1 gives us a real opportunity."
