Attendance was about 120 on this mild but wet day with a pregame misty rain becoming harder as the game started through the end of the first half. What sounded like thunder was just cars and trucks driving over the planks laid down on Steeles Ave West near where they're building a subway tunnel.

The game was delayed by 20 minutes because TFCA had brought their gray uniforms--nothing wrong with their gray shirts, but their black shorts and black/red socks contrasted with Vaughan's navy shorts and socks. A van was sent from their Downsview training grounds to deliver their all red kits.

Referee Ben Jacobs gave out six YELLOW cards that I counted plus the two REDs (which didn't really have an effect as those were for non-on-the-field participants). The game got chippier in the second half.

This was a battle of the two first place teams in the league. (although Sigma FC is also tied for second place). TFCA improves to 7 wins, 3 ties, 0 losses for 24 points. Vaughan falls to 5 wins, 1 tie, 2 losses for 16 points. Only reason TFCA may not pull away with the title is that the coaching staff said some of the players are going to Wilmington of the USL Pro for playing time there. It is also possible that some of the players may get to play in the friendly on Wednesday against Tottenham Hotspur of England. I remember Toronto FC playing Liverpool two years ago and using a mix of TFC bench and Academy players in the second half and earning a 1-1 tie. It appeared that TFCA used their starting eleven the entire game making no substitutions.

Danny Dichio was listed as one of the TFCA managers for today's game. He usually is the head coach of the Under 13 Academy team. He gave a big hug to VA forward Andrea Lombardo before the game as they were the forward line of the 2007 inaugral MLS team. VA head coach Carmine Isacco was the goalkeeping coach for the first two years of the MLS team.

Many of the Vaughan players were once TFC Academy players and now play for the York University team so it isn't hard to see how League 1 Ontario was able to use the facilities. Vaughan also splits home games at the Ontario Soccer Centre and St Joan of Arc CHS.

This is the return fixture of the first game of the season when these two teams played to a 1-1 tie. TFCA played a man down from 13 minutes in that game.
