July 11, 2014 League 1 Ontario--Player of the Week: Anthony Santilli (from League 1 Ontario website)
Player of the Week: Anthony Santilli . Fri Jul 11 Written By: Rollins, Duane League1 player of the week Anthony Santilli doesn't hesitate when asked what his biggest contribution to the Windsor Stars is. "My vocal cords," the 32-year old keeper says with a laugh. "Anyone that has seen me play can attest to that. I like to make myself heard back there." He has done his share of shot-stopping as well this season. With much of the attention focused on teams like Vaughan Azzurri and Toronto FC Academy, the Stars have quietly remained undefeated. That success is largely based on a league best three goals against record. Santilli is proud of that record, but credits his back-line equally. "The key is that it's a full team effort," he said. "But I don't like to let in goals." As one of the older players in the league Santilli is enjoying seeing younger players excel in an environment designed to give them the best chance to succeed. "It's great to see where the league is in just it's first year. It will only get better." That's not to say Santilli has put all his focus on watching the young kids develop. He still loves to play and has dreams for himself and the Stars. "I think we're showing that we can compete with (the top teams) in this league. "We're confident we can stay near the top all year."
