1st Half:...game starts 8:57pm...ANB defend north end. The sun has just gone under the horizon and the temperature is cooling quickly.
2 min...ANB Jahsua Mills has through ball pushed too far ahead and goalie runs to edge of box to pick it up.
3 min...DUFC YELLOW card...Johal earns it for tackle that knocks down an ANB player.
4 min...ANB Jahsua Mills 35 yard freekick up middle has goalie palm ball over net.
4 min...ANB Brandon Mills cornerkick from left has goalie charge to left to make catch.
6 min...ANB Smith rolls through ball pass from middle to right for ANB Brandon Mills to rush in from 30 yards. Brandon Mills from 10 yards near right end line threads pass though defenders and charging ANB Smith blasts 10 yard shot off underside of bar but ball stays out.
8 min...DUFC Le Rohne Young GOAL...DUFC Davinder Johal sends pass from the middle over to Young at 25 yards on the left and he rolls 20 yard shot into the short side of the net between the left post and the sprawling goalie.
13 min...DUFC Lord feeds ball forward to DUFC Le Rohne Young who runs into ANB box but is checked off ball by defender and can't get away a shot at 5 yards.

47 min...ANB Jason Mills has pass fall to him all alone at 18 yards in middle and he turns and blasts shot that goalie flies left to bat down then beats Jason Mills to smother as defenders were waiting for offside flag that never came.

57 min...ANB Smith rush up right and low cross from near right cornerflag is behind net.

71 min...ANB Smith is injured on tackle at DUFC 20 yard line near sideline and needs to be helped off field.
73 min...DUFC La Rohne Young GOAL...DUFC goalie Eugene Alves receives throw-in from ANB player (as DUFC had kicked the ball out of bounds when ANB Anthony Smith was injured) and dropkicks the ball upfield. The ball lands at 30 yards with ANB defender Shiquan Lowe and goalie converging on it with Young charging towards ball. Lowe heads the ball over goalie and the ball bounces towards the net but it looked like it would just bounce wide. Young charges after it and shoots 6 yarder from right into empty net.

77 min...ANB YELLOW card...Smith earns it for not giving 10 yards on freekick. He also took a hard shot to the head on the play.
78 min...ANB goalie catches 30 yard chip on net.
79 min...ANB sub...Bertolo replaces Smith.

88 min...DUFC defender gets back to block an ANB player's shot on edge of box after rush up middle.
93 min...ANB Bauer blasts low 28 yard shot up middle that's wide left of net.

Attendance was about 50 on this warm night that was cooling quickly as the sun dropped just below the horizon before the game started.

Referee Alexis Vaughan gave out two Yellow cards to each team that I counted in a game that had some tough tackles.

Two key plays made the difference in ANB falling short. At 6 minutes ANB Anthony Smith rolled a through ball pass from the middle to the right where ANB Brandon Mills rushed in from 30 yards and at 10 yards near the right end line threaded a pass between the defenders and the charging Smith blasted a 10 yard shot off the underside of the bar but the ball stayed out of the net. (Within two minutes Durham scored). At 47 minutes ANB Jason Mills got a pass that fell to him and he was all alone at 18 yards in the middle and turned and blasted a shot that the goalie flew to the left to bat down then got up to smother the ball before Mills could get to it. The defenders had frozen at the beginning of the play waiting for an offside flag to come up.

ANB Brandon Mills was making long runs up the right side and crossing into the box most of the first half. Durham made three subs at halftime including subbing off defenders Nicholas Goddard (even though he was captain) and Hameez Farrell with replacements Le Shaun Young and Jordon Dover.

This was a Cup game in Group A. Each of the five teams in the group play two home and two away games. Durham United improve to 2 wins in 2 games while ANB falls to 2 losses in 2 games. Only the two top teams advance to play a semi-final game against the Group B top two.

This win almost guarantees Durham one of the two spots. Their head coach Tony La Ferrara said after the game they need one more win against Toronto FC Academy (who haven't played a Cup game yet) or Cataraqui Clippers (1 win in 1 game). I calculate maybe a tie would be good enough or if the other teams tie each other that will gift Durham a spot. La Ferrara pointed out that their two Cup wins were both road games so now the remaining fixtures are at home.

The ANB goal had the three Mills brothers involved while their father is an assistant coach. La Ferrara answered some family questions about Durham for me. Starters Ethan and Emile Saimovici are brothers, Le Rohne Young started and brother Le Shaun Young was a substitute, and starter Joseph Roccasalva has his father Corrado Roccasalva as one of the team managers.
