March 5, 2014--Canadian Soccer League expelled from membership from Canadian Soccer Association (from CSA press release)
Canadian Soccer League expelled from membership from Canadian Soccer Association 5 March 2014 The Canadian Soccer Association Board of Directors, pursuant to its by-laws, voted on 28 February 2014 to expel the Canadian Soccer League (CSL) from membership with immediate effect. It was determined that the Canadian Soccer League did not fulfill its member obligations and violated rules and regulations of the Canadian Soccer Association, resulting in its expulsion and the cancellation of all rights in relation to the national governing body. “We have informed the Canadian Soccer League of our decision,” said Victor Montagliani, President of the Canadian Soccer Association. “The Canadian Soccer Association can now continue its work in supporting the development of elite-level, semi-professional regional leagues that will provide the appropriate bridge between high-performance youth players and national and professional team selection, as set forth in our 2014-2018 Strategic Plan LEADING a Soccer Nation.” As per the Canadian Soccer Association by-laws, current members in good standing may not entertain sporting contact with the CSL (non-member), or risk sanctions themselves. *Note that no media interviews will be granted on this topic.
