Attendance was announced as 12162 in a game that was heavily promoted in the Toronto area. The Canadian fans sounded louder the whole game but especially after they took the lead. I know I was called twice to buy tickets.
Referee Juan Guzman gave out only one Yellow card the entire contest in a game that wasn't rough. The officiating crew were regulars from the MLS league.
Canada breaks a 16 game winless streak that has stretched almost two full years. Their last win was October 12th, 2012 in World Cup Qualifying 3-0 over Cuba who only had 12 players because of immigration problems at the border. Today's win was over a Jamaican team with only 17 players from which to pick today's lineup.
Canada's next match is a friendly in Panama on November 18th. Canada only plays about half as often as other countries. When teams like the USA have a break they almost always play two games. The club teams would rather Canada didn't play at all.
Toronto FC did their best to wear out Dwayne De Rosario starting him and playing him 68 minutes on Saturday. Doneil Henry played the whole game on Saturday and this game too although he was out of position as an outside back and was recalled by TFC so missed the Canada training camp. Kyle Bekker played the last 47 minutes of Saturday's game. Ashtone Morgan could train and play because he was Red carded in TFC's game against Philadelphia last Wednesday. Jonathan Osorio was not called up because TFC had already given enough and he was suffering from an injury. So many missing TFC players wouldn't have helped convince locals to be part of the walk up crowd although three did manage to get into the game.
It was very important that Canada scored so soon after the Jamaica goal so it wouldn't left the team nor the fan support sag. Canada scored their last two goals while the Jamaicans were down a man because both times a player was being treated on the sidelines for an injury.
Maybe Canada should have tried to shoot more as one last pass in the box was often intercepted. Jamaica did this a few times too.
Canada's Man of the Match was goaltender Milan Borjan who had to deal with quite a few Jamaican through ball passes especially up the right wing.
Jamaica had four players from Waterhouse FC that plays in the Jamaican league. That team is in CONCACAF Championship League group stage with DC United of MLS and Tauro FC of Panama. Jamaica was mostly a young team. They had only one player who had more than 15 caps.
