K-W United Ends Season On High Chapman leads side to 3-1 victory against Toronto Sunday, July 21, 2013 WATERLOO, Ont. -- Jay Chapman led the way for K-W United FC on Sunday night as the home team finished off their inaugural season with an impressive 3-1 win over the Toronto Lynx. Despite the win, the Chicago Fire PDL defeated the Chicago Inferno to jump ahead of K-W United, and clinched the final playoff position. United's win also knocked Toronto out of the playoffs. Sunday's game featured a large, enthusiastic crowd at University Stadium. From beginning to end, the fans stood behind their home team as they went for the final playoff push of the season. United started strongly in the first half, putting a lot of pressure on the Lynx and goalkeeper Matt Silva early. In the seventh minute, Chapman picked up a loose ball to break down the middle of the field, out-running all defenders and sliding it into the bottom-right corner to put United up 1-0. With additional chances from Chapman and his attackers, United kept up the pressure, but the score would be 1-0 going into the half. The second half had much the same, with United adding more pressure to their attack. It wasn't until the 56th minute when Chapman would add to the lead with his second of the game. After a foul was called against K-W United, Toronto was rewarded with a free kick just outside the 18-yard box. Lloyd Grist would send a beautiful curve to the top right hand corner of United's net, entirely out of goalkeeper Darrin MacLeod's reach, to cut the lead in half. The goal would spark the Lynx, who started applying some strong pressure on United, getting some big chances against MacLeod. In the 79th minute, the Lynx would be in all alone against MacLeod with a sure goal, but MacLeod would put on his best performance of the season, stopping the main shot and getting back into position to stop another big shot into an open net. United's defenders would then get the ball out of the penalty area, denying the biggest opportunity of the game. With time winding down on the Lynx's season, the visitors would apply a bit more pressure, but United's back four would not allow any opportunities to occur. In injury time, Evan James finished off a beautiful cross from Jay Chapman with a beautiful header, sealing the game and the Lynx fate. MacLeod was named Man of the Match for his unbelievable performance. United have now finished their season, finishing fourth in the PDL Great Lakes Division with a 5-6-3 record. United would like to thank all of its players, coaches, staff and crew for their hard work over the last eight months, getting the team ready to compete in the already-established league.
