Attendance was about 125 on this warm overcast day that had dark clouds threatening a rain storm the whole game but there was no rain until well after the game was over. This game included ballgirls from the Oshawa Kicks soccer club which also meant adding their parents to the attendance.

Lady Lynx had most of the play except for a spell between 62 and the end when both teams traded chances in end-to- end action. Fury in that time started pushing players up in counterattacks to try to overload the Lady Lynx defence.

Kailen Sheridan earned the shutout for the Lady Lynx. Britt Eckerstrom did the same for the Fury. Both had a few solid saves but had nothing spectacular to do.

Referee Heather Dominique gave out no cards this game. The game wasn't rough. She gave warnings to TLL Ashley Lawrence and OF Holly Hein for a pushing incident after a whistle at 69 minutes.

Both teams had problems keeping the ball inbounds on the artificial turf which caused the ball to roll and bounce out before they could be played.

Best non-scoring chances were at 2 minutes when TLL Ashley Lawrence took a short cornerkick from the left to TLL Jade Kovacevic who crossed in from 28 yards on right and TLL Oni Bernard in crowd of players headed the ball over the net from 6 yards. 26 minutes had TLL Kovacevic take a 35 yard freekick from the left which was to roll the ball forward and TLL Ashley Campbell crossed from 12 yards on end line and the goalie palmed the ball through the box and wide right for a cornerkick. 45 minutes had OF Holly Hein chip a 30 yard freekick from the left and an OF player in a crowd of players at 7 yards popped a header wide right of the net. 61 minutes and TLL Jovacevic took a 35 yard freekick from the left that had the ball drop in the box and the goalie saved it on the right post from a close-in shot.

Midfielder Alyscha Mottershead played for the Fury today. She was playing for the Lady Lynx previous to this year. 51 minute defensive substitute Kinley McNicoll also played for Lady Lynx the last few years.

Ennio for the PA announcements did mention that Kadeisha Buchanan was on the Canadian national team in the intros. This was probably because I was telling him about me being at that game and getting a yearbook that I glanced through and noticed 16 or 33 pictured players in the player pool had links with the Lady Lynx and their predecessor Toronto Inferno. Buchanan wasn't listed in the guide so that would make 17 out of 34. After the game Ashley Lawrence's father mentioned that she is also in the Canadian national team player pool. I looked online and found that she's already been capped by the Senior team and she's also 17 and will be going to West Virginia University in the Fall just like Buchanan. That would make 18 out of 35-- more than half the national team came through Toronto.

Buchanan played well in all 90 minutes today on defence. Wednesday she was a sub for the last 25 minutes of the game against London Gryphon and played as a forward and scored the only goal of the game.

The Lady Lynx record rises to 3 wins, 3 ties, 0 losses and their goals for/against 6/1. Fury record is now 3 wins, 1 tie, 0 losses and goals for/against 9/1. From those defensive records it now makes sense why the game would be low scoring. Lady Lynx are only averaging scoring one goal per game.

I expect Fury will take over first place once they use some of their games in hand. It won't be this weekend because they came to Southern Ontario to play this one game. They have already beaten the other two teams in the area last weekend in Saturday/Sunday games. The Fury have played all four of their games on the road! Lady Lynx will play in Ottawa next month in their last game of the season--again their only game that weekend. Fury are the defending W-League Champions winning in 2012 while hosting the final four.

Lady Lynx next game is next Saturday here at Centennial Stadium at 6:00pm against Kitchener-Waterloo SC.
