BRAMPTON RETURNS TO WINNING FORM WITH 2-1 VICTORY....Astros Vasas held to 3-3 tie by Niagara United

Astros Vasas FC is still in the hunt for a playoff spot following a 3-3 tie against 
Niagara United, while Brampton City Utd returned to winning form with a last minute 
2-1 victory at Windsor Stars, two games in the CSL First Division Saturday.

Forward Derek Paterson opened the scoring for Niagara United at Esther Shiner Stadium 
when he found the net past Astros Vasas goalkeeper Matthew George at the 5th minute 
mark, but Astros’ forward Eric Luptak tied the score 1-1 with a goal just three 
minutes later.

Niagara took the lead at 38 minutes on a goal by Andy Tiedt and it was 2-1 at the interval.

Midfielder Jose Melo struck for Astros Vasas at 68 minutes, his sixth goal of the season 
for a 2-2 tie and Evan James put the home side up 3-2 at 80 minutes when he headed 
in a free kick. It was James’ fourth goal of the campaign.

Niagara equalized at the 88th minute mark on a goal by Goran Roksandia, a 3-3 tie 
at the final whistle.

Astros Vasas now has a 6-11-4 WLT record for 22 points in eighth position in the 
standings and continue to be one of four teams bidding for the last playoff berth. 
Niagara United have a 3-15-4 record for 13 points.

Following a scoreless first half, forward Peter Niles put Brampton City Utd ahead 
at the 54th minute mark at Windsor Stadium, but Gino Berardi equalized for Windsor 
Stars when he found the net past Brampton goalkeeper Camilo Benzi four minutes later. 

Striker Milos Scepanovic scored the winning goal from the penalty spot following 
a foul in the box, he drove the ball past Windsor goalkeeper Anthony Santilli 
at the 90th minute mark, 2-1 in favour of Brampton. It was the Brampton forward’s 
16th goal of the season.

The win was Brampton City Utd’s first win in six games since August 30 and the 
Toronto area team has a 13-7-1 record for 40 points for 4th place in the standings, 
Windsor Stars have a 8-9-3 record for 27 points.

There was one game in the CSL Second Division Saturday, with Kingston FC B defeating 
Serbian White Eagles B 3-2.
