KINGSTON WIN 15TH GAME TO GO FOUR POINTS CLEAR......Toronto Croatia win, Astros Vasas hold Brampton to 2-2 tie Kingston FC squeaked past York Region Shooters 2-1 but went four points clear at the top of the First Division, Toronto Croatia defeated Burlington 4-1, while Brampton City Utd were held to a 2-2 tie by Astros Vasas FC, three games in the CSL Sunday. At the Invista Centre at Kingston, Catalin Lichioiu struck the opening goal for Kingston, heading in off a cross from Edgar Soglo and York Region’s Richard West tied the game 1-1 at 44 minutes. CSL leading goalscorer Guillaume Surot scored the winner from the penalty spot at 86 minutes - his 26th of the campaign - called when Kingston captain Austin White was brought down in the penalty box from a corner kick and the game ended 2-1 in favour of Kingston. Kingston now have a 15-3-2 WLT record for 47 points, four points clear of York Region Shooters and Toronto Croatia. The eastern Ontario club has two games remaining in the regular season, York Region Shooters and Toronto Croatia each have 3 games remaining. Burlington SC led Toronto Croatia 1-0 in the first half on a goal by Nenad Nikolic who scored at 26 minutes, until Toronto Croatia defender Sven Arapovic equalized at 45 minutes in the game at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga. Josip Keran put the Toronto team 2-1 up at 47 minutes for a Toronto Croatia lead at the break and Arapovic made it 3-1 at the 56th minute mark. Roberto Gallo increased the Toronto Croatia lead to 4-1 at 69 minutes, the score at the final whistle. Toronto Croatia have a 13-2-4 record for 43 points, while Burlington are at 6-14-0 for 18 points. Brampton City Utd took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Mirko Medic who headed into the net for a 1-0 lead over Astros Vasas after just one minute at Esther Shiner Stadium, but Austin Paul equalized for the home side six minutes later and the 1-1 score held to the interval. David Guzman put Brampton into a 2-1 lead at 75 minutes, a screaming free kick from 35 yards, but Astros Vasas responded again when Evan James headed in a cross from Jose Melo to beat Brampton goalkeeper Camilo Benzi at the 87th minute mark, a 2-2 final score. Brampton are in fourth place in the standings with a 12-6-1 record for 37 points, while Astros Vasas are at 6-11-3 for 21 points in ninth position. There was one game played in the CSL Second Division, York Region Shooters B crushing Kingston FC B 6-1. Brampton City B has clinched a playoff spot in the Second Division.
