SC WATERLOO VICTORY AT ST. CATHARINES...........York Region, Toronto Croatia join Kingston in playoffs SC Waterloo won their sixth game of the campaign with a 3-1 defeat of St. Catharines Wolves, a well-played encounter and the only game in the Canadian Soccer League Wednesday night. Adis Hasecic, Waterloo’s leading scorer, opened the scoring for the visitors at 6 minutes at a fog-bound Club Roma which required an inspection before referee Manuel Orellano ruled the game would go on, nevertheless. Hasecic collected the ball well inside the box to drive it into the left corner of the net out of reach of St. Catharines goalkeeper Matthew Greco. Forward Drazen Vukovic increased Waterloo’s lead to 2-0 at 32 minutes, the score at the interval and five minutes into the second half the former Brantford Galaxy striker who was acquired from NK Junak Sinj in Croatia earlier this year struck his second goal to increase lead to 3-0 for Waterloo at the 49th minute mark. St. Catharines reduced the lead with a goal from defender Matthew Mateljan who scored from the penalty spot following a foul called by referee Orellana at 88 minutes and the game ended 3-1 in favour of SC Waterloo. SC Waterloo improve to 6-5-4 WLT for 22 points and fifth position in the standings, while St. Catharines Wolves are at 4-11-0. Wednesday's result means that both York Region Shooters and Toronto Croatia now officially join Kingston FC with a playoff berth, the first three of eight that will eventually clinch a position in the championship games to be played in October. The points total of Kingston, York Region Shooters and Toronto Croatia cannot be matched by four First Division clubs with the remaining games to be played to the end of the regular season.
