SUROT SCORES FOUR IN KINGSTON'S 6-0 ROUT....top teams Shooters, Brampton also win Kingston FC striker Guillaume Surot led his team with four goals to a 6-0 rout of Astros Vasas FC and sole possession of first place in the CSL First Division, while in two other games played Sunday, the top teams continued to keep pace - a York Region Shooters 3-0 victory over London City and a Brampton City Utd 3-1 win over Burlington SC. Midfielder Catalin Lichioiu opened the scoring for Kingston against Astros Vasas at the Queen’s University West Field in Kingston, his ninth of the season when his free kick found the mark past Astros goalkeeper Laszlo Barna at 12 minutes, and this was followed by the first of four goals from Guillaume Surot who collected a pass from defender Rory Kennedy to volley the ball into the net, a 2-0 score at half-time. Jason Massie made it 3-0 at 51 minutes and Surot increased the lead to 4-0 at 54 minutes and the French-born forward completed his hat-trick at 58 minutes, a 5-0 Kingston lead. Surot then took a pass from substitute Michael Smith to score his fourth goal at 88 minutes to complete the scoring at 6-0, a goal that increased the season tally for Surot to 21 and an eight-goal lead in the CSL First Division scoring title race. The 6-0 victory also increases the Kingston goals scored to 56 for the season so far and an improved overall record of 12-3-1 WLT for 37 points and top position in the standings. Astros Vasas now has a 4-10-2 record for 14 points in 9th place. A determined York Region Shooters pressed for the lead at the St. Joan of Arc ground at Maple and succeeded when forward Kadian Lecky took a pass from Mario Orestano to score from close range at 36 minutes Orestano was involved in the second goal for the home side when he set-up midfielder Francisco Javier Juarez who drove the ball past London goalkeeper Vladimir Markotic at the 41st minute for a 2-0 lead at the break. Richard Edwards***, a new signing for Shooters and a prominent player in Jamaica, moved the ball to midfielder Tristan Jackman to complete the scoring at the 49th minute mark, a 3-0 win for York Region Shooters now with a 11-3-1 record for 34 points and tied for second place in the standings, while London City are at 6-9-3 for 21 points and tied for fifth place. Brampton City Utd recovered from an early 1-0 deficit to win their game over Burlington SC at Nelson Stadium in Burlington, the opening goal scored by Burlington defender Nenad Nikolic who headed into the net after 20 minutes. But the lead was short-lived when Milos Scepanovic scored twice from penalties called by referee Arthur Kobiel at 33 and 46 minutes for a 2-1 Brampton lead at half-time. Burlington were reduced to nine men when referee Kobiel showed the red card firstly to Darko Thomas at 45 minutes and seven minutes later to Mario Gavran and this was followed by Brampton’s third goal struck by midfielder David Velastegui who found the net past Burlington goalkeeper Vladimir Vujasinovic for a 3-1 score at the final whistle.
***I wasn't sure who passed the ball to Tristan Jackman for his goal so I asked him after the game and he said it was Dino Gardner so I that's why my report differs.
