Halftime entertainment: Seven girls from Dance Kids Canada danced through a medley of Top 40 songs. At least for this game the sound worked today after one CD restart and a volume adjustment.

Attendance was about 120 (biggest crowd I've seen for an Astros game in a few years).

Wolves earn revenge for a 3-2 home game loss against Astros 12 days ago. This game could have had the same result if the Astros had converted some of their early chances and built a 3-0 lead like that game.

Referee Ramee Arbaji gave out seven cards in total that I counted in this game that wasn't particuliar rough but were mostly called for obstruction, clutching and grabbing.

Wolves head coach Carmen Arghittu was in the stands for the game but in a small crowd he could easily be heard yelling instructions to his defenders. He answered me after the game that he is still the coach and is not serving a suspension but trying a new way of observing the game.

Matthew Greco earned the shutout for the Wolves. Both goalies had to make some spectacular saves in this game which had end- to-end action.

Best non-scoring chances were at 7 minutes when AV Tristan Watson after a run from the left blasted a 12 yarder that hit the underside of the bar but stayed out and was cleared. 13 minutes had Wolves Camilo Veloza chipped a pass over the defenders and Wolves Brett Larocque then tried an 18 yard chip that the goalie batted down at 12 yards. 31 minutes had Wolves Matthew DiMaria popp up a header back to his goalie from 30 yards and AV Jose DeSousa intercepted and kicked a 20 yard shot that bounced just wide right of the post. 36 minutes has AV DeSousa take a cornerkick from the right that had AV Watson knock down a header in a crowd of players at 15 yards and the goalie crawled to push the ball away at 8 yards and AV Kurt Ramsey blasted the partial clearance from 20 yards that was blocked by a defender at 10 yards which the referee waved off as AV players and the fans screamed for a hand ball call. Second half had even more end-to-end action when AV Watson at 49 minutes blasted a 15 yard low shot from the right that hit the left post. AV Erik Gulyas then blasted the 18 yard rebound hitting the bar! Wolves Calvin Rosario was in a rush upfield within the minute and finished with a 20 yard shot that the goalie batted away. 51 minutes had AV Robin Sibalin blast a 20 yarder after a rush on the right and the flying goalie batted down. 53 minutes had AV Joey Melo take a 35 yard freekick from the right that the lunging AV Kevin Dhillon at 5 yards just missed redirecting at the left post. Next minute had Wolves Larocque get a through ball pass at 25 yards and deked the goalie at 18 yards but shot wide right of the post as a defender closed in from behind. 56 minutes had AV Watson had a 12 yard shot stopped and AV Sibalin crossed the rebound from 15 yards on the right that a defender cleared. 82 minutes had AV Horvat Adalbert fed a pass by AV Melo at 12 yards on the left and his 8 yard low shot deflected wide left off the sprawling goalie guarding the left post.

Lajos Ku (pronounced 'Ko') took the ceremonial kickoff. He is currently the Hungarian Minister of Sport and was on the Hungarian National team that won the silver medal in the 1972 Olympic games. Later he had the winning ticket in the 50-50 draw.

Wolves came off this game in good shape except for an injury to defender Calvin Rosario who was down at 87 minutes and needed to be helped from the field by a player and trainer so it was not for time wasting. Manager Carl Medonca said they're not sure how serious the injury is but recently they've had players "dropping like flies".

Wolves postponed their home game last Wednesday against Niagara United so they could come to Toronto and watch the Toronto FC vs AS Roma game at BMO Field now that they have an association with the Italian club. At least that was by their choice...tonight's game between Toronto Croatia and Brampton City United scheduled for Centennial Stadium had to be postponed as the result of damage from the July 8th storm which has already postponed three Serbian White Eagles games who also use that field for their home games on Friday nights. Esther Shiner Stadium was damaged too but the Astros had a backup plan and played one or their home games at Downsview Park (the Toronto FC training ground).

Wolves record improves to 4 wins, 8 losses and 0 ties which jumps them from 11th to a tie for 9th. Astros hang on for now to the 8th and last playoff spot with a 4 wins, 9 losses, 2 ties record.
