SHOOTERS EXTEND WINNING STREAK TO JOIN KINGSTON ON TOP.......Sunday's games in the First Division York Region Shooters extended their winning streak to six games going back to June 8 with Sunday’s 3-0 victory at the Nelson Stadium at Burlington, and the team from just north of Toronto was rewarded with a tie for top spot with Kingston FC in the CSL First Division. In two other games played Sunday, Brampton City Utd defeated Niagara United 3-0, while Windsor Stars and SC Waterloo fought to a 2-2 tie. Midfielder Ali Hamam got the ball rolling for York Region with a goal at 36 minutes and it was 1-0 at half-time. Desmond Humphrey struck the second goal when he put the ball into the net past Burlington goalkeeper Vladimir Vujasinovic at 60 minutes and Richard West made it 3-0 for the visitors at 85 minutes, the score at the final whistle. York Region has a 7-2-1 record at the top for 22 points at this half-way mark in the season and the team has the best goals against record, just eight goals conceded in 10 games. Burlington are at 3-6-0 for 9 points. Following a goalless, well played first half at the Terry Fox Stadium in Brampton, forward Marcos Nunes opened the scoring for Brampton City Utd at 51 minutes when he drove the ball inside the post and to the right of Niagara goalkeeper Jonathan Bruggeling. Nunes made it 2-0 at 84 minutes when he closed in with the ball to beat Bruggeling from close range. Late in the game Brampton were controlling the play and at 90 minutes the home side went further ahead with a goal for the penalty spot at 90 minutes by striker Milos Scepanovic and the 3-0 score remained to the final whistle. Referee David Barrie called the penalty following a hand ball infringement by a Niagara United defender. Brampton kept in touch in their bid for First Division honours as a result of the win, they now have an improved 7-2-0 WLT record for 21 points and tied for second position in the standings with Toronto Croatia. Niagara United are at 1-7-3 for 6 points and occupy the bottom position. A goal by Darragh Roe from close in at 85 minutes salvaged a tie for SC Waterloo in the game with Windsor Stars played at Windsor Stadium. Forward Adis Hadesic opened the scoring for the visiting Waterloo side at 41 minutes, and that score held to the break. Gino Beradi tied the game for Windsor at 74 minutes and this was followed just four minutes later when forward Mike Pio gave the border side a 2-1 lead. Roe struck the tying goal for Waterloo 7 minutes later, a 2-2 final score. There were two games in the CSL Second Division Sunday. Brampton City Utd B scored a convincing 4-1 victory over Niagara United B and St. Catharines Wolves B tied 2-2 with York Region Shooters B.
