Attendance was about 80 on this cool but dry night.

White Eagles couldn't put away their chances. Much of the game was conducted in the Niagara half with Niagara waiting for counterattacks. SWE Kiril Dimitrov had plenty of long runs up the wing on 3 on 8 rushes then his crosses were into the well protected box, caught by the goalie, over the box or behind the net.

Jonathan Deluca earned the shutout for Niagara having to make a few key saves and benefiting from poor SWE shooting.

Referee Manuel Orellana gave out only one Yellow card in this game which was mostly wide open. There were a lot of injuries with players going all out.

Keith Makabuya was a graduate of TFC Academy (that played in this league from 2008 to 2012). He was given a contract for the MLS Toronto FC for 2011 and 2012 but was released at the end of last season. Makabuya is from nearby (to Niagara Falls) St Catharines.

Best non-scoring chances were at 21 minutes when SWE Kiril Dimitrov rushes on the left to the end line and rolled a ball to the center and the goalie dove forward to push the ball just out of reach of the charging SWE Djodjije Strunjas waiting for a 5 yard tap-in. 24 minutes had NU Keith Makabuya bump a defender over and kicked a 20 yard shot from the right just over the bar. 30 minutes had SWE Strunjas cross from 25 yards along the right end line and SWE Ramon Bailey one-touched an 8 yard shot from the left that bounced to the goalie. 57 minutes had SWE Dimitrov rush up the right to get to a pass and cross across the 6 yard box just a step ahead of the charging SWE Nikola Miodrag. 70 minutes had SWE Dimitrov cross from the right just over the head of the jumping SWE Strunjas at 7 yards. 74 minutes had SWE Ramon Bailey's cornerkick from the left popped up in the box and the goalie missed it but a defender kicked it over his own net.

United coach James McGillivray confirmed this was their first win of the season. (1 win, 2 ties, 3 losses). SWE hasn't won in their last four games and their record falls to 2 wins, 4 losses, 1 tie. Their last game was a 4-0 loss away to Waterloo last Sunday so their defence has improved because Niagara's scoring chances were minimal tonight.

United will be back at this stadium on Sunday night to play Toronto Croatia. They were leaving right after the game to return to Niagara in a tour bus parked at the north end gate.

My name was mentioned on the air on The Fan 590 last night when Nigel Reed read part of my e-mail. I was pleased that the CSL was put in a good light the week before by guest Jonathan Osario from MLS Toronto FC when he was talking about his background in soccer and later Bob Iarusci said the league was good for providing competition for young players against seasoned veterans. Also he read my comments about the contrast of watching Kadeisha Buchanan debut for the Canadian National women's team in front of 22000 then within the week seeing her score for Toronto Lady Lynx in front of less than 100 although Nigel changed the crowd size to 'four men and a dog' which is their inside joke for the number of listeners to their radio show. Those two weeks of shows are available in podcast form on i-Tunes and their website. Hmmm. One of their guests was former nat player Clare Rustad who played for Lady Lynx.
