Attendance was about 100 on this cool night. By the end of the game I was glad I wore my parka.

This was really a must win for both teams with both lower than 8th place before the game began and only two games left. MEFC had lost a 1-0 game against Brampton in a rescheduled game on Wednesday night. (I didn't know that one was on or I'd have gone).

Niagara looked the better team but often made one too many passes and took a lot of poorly aimed shots. Mississauga often had rushes with two or three players against four or five men back and were disposessed or had their shots blocked. Only Joey Melo played a true forward for MEFC and he'd often hold the ball up until other MEFC players came forward.

Best non scoring chances were at 18 minutes when MEFC Anthony Smith rushed in on the right to take a ball away from the sliding goalie at 15 yards before he could get to it but his 12 yard shot from the right was into the outside webbing of the open net. 36 minutes had MEFC Shaun MacDonald keep the ball in play at the right cornerflag and cross into the NU box where MEFC Joey Melo jabbed at the ball at 5 yards on the right post that the goalie went low to block and the defenders clear the danger. 79 minutes had MEFC Matthew Macri take a cornerkick from the right that MEFC Thomas McLean headed just over the net from 7 yards.

Referee Mack Meloche gave out only one Yellow card that I noticed. There were a lot of offsides on this small field and lots of freekicks for rough play by both teams.

This was the fifth time I've seen Niagara this year and the second time I've seen their head coach James McGillivray forced to encourage his team from the stands while serving a suspension.

Tonight's win moves Niagara United into the 8th and final playoff spot with a 9-9-3 (30 points) record with one game remaining. Their win tonight eliminates Mississauga 7-9-5 (26 points), one game remaining and London City 6-8-5 (25 points), one game left. Still mathematically having a chance to catch Niagara are Brampton City United with 28 points, one game left (that counts that they lost tonight to Serbian White Eagles), SC Waterloo with 26 points and two games left and Brantford Galaxy at 25 points with two games left.
