9 min...TFCA Sacramento takes a freekick from 25 yards on the left that a defender heads to the right and TFCA Bradshaw blasts a 15 yard one-touch shot off the crossbar.
10 min...TFCA player's cornerkick from the left is headed around and goalie catches 10 yard cross.

80 min...YRS defender Trujillo makes a sliding scissor-legs check on TFCA Capanella at 30 yards just as he was starting a breakaway run. It was all-ball and Capanella stayed on his feet and for a second it looked like he didn't realize he no longer had the ball.

Attendance was about 125 on this cool evening with the temperature falling fast as the sun set. This number included many of the Reserves players who left at the end of the first half so they could warm up in the end zone before their game.

This game was pretty even and a tie was a fair result although with the way the defence of both teams were playing, a 0-0 tie would have been even more appropriate.

Referee Jutin Tasev had a very easy game to call and after the game I confirmed that only two Yellow cards were given out in the game--both to Shooters players. He also didn't fall for any soft pushover plays in the box for penalty kick requests. I only counted one offside flag up in the entire second half which is unusual in that I've seen the Shooters burned on about a dozen offsides during a game.

Shooters brought in Matthew Rios at 68 minutes and Aundrae Rollins at 82 minutes who saved a point for their team at 90 minutes.

Best non-scoring chances were at 9 minutes when TFCA Dylan Sacramento took a freekick from 25 yards on the left that a defender headed to the right and TFCA Adam Bradshaw blasted a 15 yard one-touch shot off the crossbar. 73 minutes had YRS Fitzroy Christey take a cornerkick from the left that was sent across the box on two headers but the goalie caught it just under the bar. 91 minutes had TFCA Christian Campanella get a pass in alone and he took a 20 yard shot from the right that rolled wide left of the post. TFCA Adrian Avila then was given a long bouncing pass but YRS Andre Stewart knocked him off the ball before he could get away a shot just inside the box.

At 55 minutes a YRS 'goal' was called back because the 10 yard shot down the middle into the net after a 25 yard freekick was deflected over on a hand ball.

80 minutes had YRS defender Alex Trujillo make maybe the defensive play of the year when he made a sliding scissor-legs check on TFCA Christian Capanella at 30 yards just as he was starting a breakaway run. It was all-ball and Capanella stayed on his feet and for a second it looked like he didn't realize he no longer had the ball.

TFC Academy had only five players listed on their bench despite their Reserves team ready to play after this game. There were a number of players I didn't recognize. After the game I pieced together with TFCA official Ryan Young where some of their players were. Defenders Tyler Pasher and Nikola Paunic and midfielder Sergio Camargo have been called up to Canada's U20 team. The University of Toronto played a home game against Queen's University this afternoon. Now that the team uses some 'older' players on their roster that meant that midfielders Christopher Mannella and Ryan Sciacchitano and forward Mario Kovacevic were absent. Paunic would have been on the U of T team as well if not for the U20 callup. Goalie Quillan Roberts (officially on the MLS roster) has started a few TFCA games to keep sharp but he's also with Canada U20. Kovacevic actually scored the U or T goal at 70 minutes today in their 2-1 loss. The U of Toronto head coach for the past five years is Anthony Capotosto who is also the TFC Academy U17 head coach who were playing the game after the one I saw.

That University vs CSL situation is similar to the game report I typed last week but you can sub the school as Ryerson University and the team as Brampton City United.

Tonight's result leaves the Shooters in 3rd place with a record of 9-1-9 (only one loss but the too-many-ties hurt them). TFC Academy are in 4th with a record of 10-4-4. 36 vs 34 points between these two teams but TFCA has an important game in hand. Eight teams make the playoffs and right now both of these teams look like they have a good chance of hosting a one-game Quarter final round match.
