TFC ACADEMY ON TOP FOLLOWING 2-1 VICTORY FRIDAY 

TFC Academy jumped to the top of the First Division following their 2-1 victory over 
North York Astros, SC Toronto moved into second spot with a 5-1 trouncing of Mississauga 
Eagles FC and London City registered a 2-0 win over St. Catharines Wolves, three games 
in the CSL Friday night.

It was a close encounter in the early stages of the TFC vs. Astros game at Downsview Park, 
but Academy midfielder Mario Orestano put the home side one-up at the 27th minute mark.

North York equalized at 44 minutes when midfielder Carlos Amorim found the net past 
TFC goalkeeper Angelo Cavalluzzo for a 1-1 score at the break.

Nikola Paunic struck the winner at 59 minutes and while the Academy had a decided edge 
in the play, the visitors had late opportunities to tie the game which ended 2-1 
in favour of  TFC.

TFC Academy improve to 8-3-1WLT for 25 points and lead the First Division standings, but that 
may change when the weekend games are completed Sunday night.

SC Toronto were outstanding in the 5-1 victory over Mississauga Eagles FC at Lamport Stadium. 
It was Brennan McNicoll who opened the scoring for Toronto, he scored at 19 minutes, but 
Mississauga tied the score on a goal by Bohdan Sulypka  at the 34th minute mark and it was 
1-1 at the interval.

Forward Jarek Whiteman then struck twice for the home side, at 51 minutes – on a penalty 
kick following a tripping incident in the box -  and 59 minutes to increase his tally 
to 11 for the season.

Defender Gerard Ladilou made it 4-1 for SC Toronto at 66 minutes, then Brennan McNicoll 
scored his second and SC Toronto’s fifth at 77 minutes for a 5-1 score, the result 
at the final whistle.

SC Toronto now have a 7-1-3 record for 24 points and second place in the standings, 
while Mississauga Eagles FC are at 4-6-2 and 14 points.

London City improved their still lowly position in the standings with a 2-0 shutout 
of even lower St. Catharines Wolves at Cove Road in London. It was midfielder 
Jasman Halkic who scored the opening goal for London City from a rebound off 
goalkeeper Claudio Perri of St. Catharines at 30 minutes.

The 1-0 lead almost held up until London forward Dalibor Mitrovic, who came 
on as a substitute midway through the second half,  increased the margin 
to 2-0 at 92 minutes, the final score.

Michael Marcoccia of London City was shown the red card near the end 
on receiving his second caution in the game.
