Two minutes later, SC Toronto goalkeeper Scott Cliff was shown the red card by referee Sylviu Petrescu following an untidy challenge outside the box, but the visitors maintained their 1-0 lead to the final whistle. Jeremy Shepherd made it 2-0 at 24 minutes following a good individual effort down the left wing and it was Shepherd who crossed the ball for the Galaxy third goal, scored by midfielder Adam Leggett, a drive from 18 yards into the lower left corner of the next out of reach of Niagara goalkeeper John De Luca.
