Attendance was announced as 15247 on this warm evening. Most sections were filled except the west side which didn't have the 200 level of seats up for sale. The north side endzone was only half filled with American travelling fans with the other seats empty.

A tie was a fair result as both teams had their chances. The USA were better than Canada in the first half as the Canadians were defensive but in the second half Canada played the USA very even. Both teams had their best chance in second half injury time. Simeon Jackson shot wide of the American net from 3 yards at 91 minutes and Clarence Goodson headed an 8 yarder from a freekick that Canadian goalie Lars Hirschfeld palmed over the net at 92 minutes.

Canada wore a blue kit to commemorate the jerseys they wore in a game against the USA in 1925. There were no names on the back of the jersey. This is the centennial year of Canadian soccer. The USA wore a new kit which was red and white hoops. I commented on SC Toronto of the Canadian Soccer League a few weeks ago wearing yellow and black hoops that made them look like bees--these US kits made them look like candy canes. Both hoop designs had easy to see numbers on the back.

Before the game the all time best Canadian Starting Eleven for both men and women's team were introduced (this was again done at halftime but only with video and pictures). Alex Bunbury was one of the players introduced. Ironically his son Teal is in the US player pool but was not on the roster today.

Today brought American players from the MLS back to BMO Field. Second half substitutes Maurice Edu played for Toronto FC in 2007 when the field wasn't real grass and Chris Wondolowski scored two goals for San Jose Earthquakes in the TFC home opener earlier this year.

This was Canada's only friendly before World Cup Qualifying later this week. For the Americans, tonight was their third game this week after having played Scotland and Brazil. For Canada more prep games would be welcomed but they don't have much depth in their player pool and the risk of injuries is a concern.
