Before the game there is a moment of silence and a reading of a letter from Jack Layton, the leader of the New Democratic Party which became the official opposition party in the recent Federal election. He had represented Toronto as a local city councillor and moved up to a Member of Parliament in a decades long career.

Attendance was not announced but listed as 21117 on this mild evening. The Canadian National Exhibition is still on and many people were late getting here at the start of the game.
The Man of the Match (who is always a TFC player) was goal scorer Eric Avila. He was injured in a tackle at 41 minutes getting a bloody mouth but played on until finally being subbed out at 82 minutes.
Earthquakes have four ex-TFC players from the last few years. Defenders Nana Attakora, midfielder Sam Cronin and forward Alan Gordon did not play in tonight's game but midfielder Jacob Peterson did come in as a second half substitution. Cronin and Attakora stayed on the subs bench. Forward Ryan Johnson started for TFC but he was on the Earthquakes roster at the beginning of the year.
The game program put down the Earthquakes and Wondolowski. The Earthquakes had only scored 26 goals it said (although that was still one more than TFC this season!) and Wondo had only scored eight goals this season after finishing with eighteen last season to win the scoring title.
Tonight's result means Toronto FC hasn't won in their last three games in all competition and Earthquakes have now not won in 13 games. Neither team is close to making the playoffs.
It was also announced that the Bank of Montreal's Team of the Week national champions as conducted by a computer poll. The choice is Glen Shield's Sun Devils from Vaughan Ontario for a $125,000 pitch refurbishment and a trip to an MLS game involving a Canadian home team. Their field is just a few streets outside the City of Toronto. Their choice is to attend a Vancouver Whitecaps game. I say that's a wise choice as it will get the kids and parents a flight and hotel stay in Vancouver. I wonder if a trip to watch TFC would have just been giving them a pocketful of bus tokens? I didn't read any message board complaints.
