Result of the Saturday July 2nd, 2011 game between Toronto FC and Vancouver Whitecaps played at BMO Field in Toronto at 12:30pm. This was the second leg of the Nutrilite Canadian Championship final round. It was actually a replay of the game that was never completed on Wednesday May 25th.

Attendance was not announced but later listed as 18212. That was slightly less than the regular season game between the two teams played on Wednesday but this was rescheduled from two months ago and it was the middle of the long holiday weekend. Most of my East side section emptied out before TFC players were presented with their medals.
Controversy appeared to even out as television replays showed that TFC Javier Martina should have been awarded a goal at 40 minutes as the ball did cross the line and TFC did not deserve a Penalty kick at 47 minutes as TFC Joao Plata knocked the ball down with his arm before VW Jonathan Leathers knocked him down in the VW box.
TFC did a good job of coming back after going behind in the first half. With the away goal rule they needed to win the game after that point.
Toronto FC wins the Nutrilite Canadian Championship for the third year in a row. The players and coaching staff were presented with medals and the Voyageurs trophy which was hoisted up and carried by the players around the field. The George Gross Trophy for the tournament's Most Valuable Player was presented to TFC's Joao Plata.
This game was the second leg of the Finals. The series was tied 1-1 on aggregate from the first game in Vancouver. The teams had first tried to play this game on Wednesday May 25th but was stopped at 59 minutes because of a lightning storm with the Whitecaps holding a 1-0 lead. In the rules of the NCC the entire game had to be played over again. The argument at the time of that game that the should be completed that night or the next morning because the preliminary round of the CONCACAF Championship was scheduled to start and that's why we were left for hours in the rain that night appeared dumb as the first round in that tourney starts at the end of July. TFC move on to play Real Esteli FC of Nicaragua. Before today's game started we knew the opponents and a good draw against this weak soccer country should allow TFC to progress to the group stage for the second year in a row.
Whitecaps had played with a 'weaker' roster on Wednesday night in the scheduled MLS game. Their strategy of saving the best players for this game backfired as they also lost the league match 1-0.
