Trillium Cup Showdown Saturday TFC v. Crew TorontoFC.ca April 22, 2011 Toronto FC will need to bounce back from a poor start in its last outing against D.C. United that saw the Reds concede twice in the opening 10 minutes at home before losing 3-0. On Saturday, April 23 Toronto will host Columbus in the first leg of the Trillium Cup, awarded to the side with the best head-to-head regular season record. The match kicks off at 4 p.m. on GOL TV Canada. Saturday could see the introduction of former English Premier League player Richard Eckersley in a TFC shirt. The 22-year old on loan right back from Burnley is no stranger to a red shirt having started his career at Manchester United F.C. With six points from as many games, Toronto sits seventh in the Eastern Conference. The Reds are only two points adrift of third place Houston and Columbus who have a game in hand. This match will mark the first of seven in 21 demanding days for Toronto that includes trips to Edmonton, Seattle and Dallas. Columbus won its last match 1-0 over Sporting Kansas City. The Crew gained maximum points on a goal by resurgent Robbie Rogers, the American winger is looking to make it back in to the U.S. national team setup. The Ohio side has never lost to Toronto in four years of football between the teams and has won the Trillium Cup in each of its three years in existence. Last year in this fixture, Toronto had finally looked to have solved the Crew until Columbus goalkeeper William Hesmer unbelievably equalized in extra time from a set piece.
