Toronto FC confirmed on Thursday the dual signing of Serbian U21 midfielder Alen Stevanovic and forward Joao Plata, the Ecuadorian who had been with the club all through preseason after he was selected in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft.
While Plata is no longer a mystery, Stevanovic arrives on loan from Italian Serie B side Torino F.C. Prior to that Stevanovic had a stint with reigning European champion Inter Milan. A quick search on YouTube reveals the left sided 20-year old (wearing number 44) can make a decent cross and isn't shy to have a go at goal.
When Stevanovic arrives at BMO Field head coach and technical director Aron Winter will be able to make a better assessment as to where the 20-year old with an already interesting resume fits into the new TFC system. It's more than likely that given Stevanovic's apparent penchant for attacking at will, Winter already has some potentially exciting ideas.
