LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The River City Rovers fell 2-0 to the Toronto Lynx on Friday night at Centurion Soccer Field as the Lynx earned their third consecutive victory in front of a hometown crowd of 336, moving into sole possession of third place in the Premier Development League's Great Lakes Division.
The night began with an evenly matched defense between the two sides, but Toronto opened the scoring in the 25th minute as Leigh Veidman fired a clean shot in the Rovers’ net. The Rovers retaliated with three more attacks before the end of the first half, and went to the break with a 5-2 advantage in shots, but were unable to beat toronto goalkeeper Michael Watkins.
The second half was all action as River City continued to push for an equalizer, Lwadiso Gonya leading the team with a pair of shots, but Watkins was up to the challenge as he recorded his third consecutive shutouts. The game became progressively more physical as the half wore on, with River City's Jarrett Robins being shown a yellow card in the 64th minute and Toronto's Al James and Bart Misiak also being cautioned three minutes apart.
The Rovers had their best chance to find an equalizer came in the 78th minute when Dustin Downey was able to create an opportunity, but his effort went wide of the post. Robins was then shown his second yellow card, reducing the Rovers to 10 men, in thhe 88th minute as he conceded a penalty kick which Callum Home put away to seal the Lynx's victory.
