Bucks Bag A Double, Keep Lead Michigan defeats both London, Toronto over weekend Michigan Bucks News Release -- www.buckssoccer.com Sunday, June 13, 2011 TORONTO - The Michigan Bucks had an enjoyable weekend in Canada when they came away with a weekend sweep with Sunday's 4-0 win against the Toronto Lynx. The win kept the Bucks in first place (5-1-1, 16 points) in the Great Lakes Division of the USL Premier Development League. After defeating FC London 2-1 on Friday evening, the team took the short drive up the 401 and posted their fifth consecutive victory of the season. The loss on Friday was the first for FC London (3-1, 9 points) and the Lynx's record dropped to 2-3 on the season (6 points). The Bucks jumped out early against Toronto on Sunday when Canadian striker Babayele Sodade out-jumped the Toronto defense and headed home the game's first goal on a throw in from Stew Givens. After battling back and forth for the balance of the first half, that proved to be the only goal before the break. The Bucks came out hard in the second half thinking another goal might just put the game away. Michigan's Tom Catalano scored his fourth goal of the season for the Bucks on a very nice individual effort that clanged in off the post in the 47th minute to give the visitors a 2-0 lead. Michigan head coach Gary Parsons rested 32-year-old striker Kenny Uzoigwe for the first half and brought him on to play the final 45 minutes to apply some additional offensive pressure. The team's leading scorer responded by heading home two more goals, giving him three for the weekend and five on the season. Uzoigwe scored his 80th PDL goal in style. After taking a cross from the right side from Luke Holmes, Uzoigwe battled both a defender and goal keeper for the ball before finally heading home the goal from his knees. "I've scored a lot of crazy goals in my life," said Uzoigwe."But never one quite as bizarre as that one." The Bucks continued to control play for the balance of the game and Uzoigwe was rewarded once again he got on the end of a Tony Walls' corner kick to head home the game's final goal in the 78th minute. Defensively the Bucks have been sound all season long. The back line has included a mixture of veteran and rookies that have combined to play pretty solid for most of the season. Givens has been the leader all season long in organizing the back four and keeping things as simple as possible for net minder Mitch Hildebrandt. Hildebrandt has been spectacular all season for the Bucks turning in his fifth win and fifth shutout of the season in seven contests. The fourth year Bucks player faced 13 Toronto Lynx shots but was only forced to make four saves on the day. The Bucks return home on Saturday, June 18 as part of the 2011 Bucks Stop Here Tour. This stop brings the team to Borden Park in Rochester where the Bucks will take on the Hamilton FC Rage for the first time. The unique event is sponsored by the Rochester Soccer Club and is being played at the end of the club's annual youth soccer tryouts. Kickoff time for the match is 5:00 PM.
