SC TORONTO WIDEN THE MARGIN WHILE SERBIAN EAGLES AND LONDON CITY ALSO WIN FRIDAY An emphatic 5-1 victory by SC Toronto over St. Catharines Wolves keeps the Toronto side in a strong position for the First Division title, while Serbian White Eagles defeated TFC Academy 1-0 and in one other game in the CSL Friday, London City picked up their second win of the season, a 2-0 result over North York Astros. Forward Alon Badat put SC Toronto into the lead over St. Catharines Wolves at Lamport Stadium, a goal from close range past St. Catharines ‘keeper Claudio Perri and five minutes later Carlos Nogueira made it 2-0 for the home side. At 31 minutes forward Massimo Mirabelli increased the lead to 3-0, but this was followed at 43 minutes by a goal from the visitors when Matthew Contino found the net past SC Toronto goalkeeper Scott Cliff and it was 3-1 at half-time. Forward Alexandros Halis struck twice for SC Toronto with goals at 90 minutes and 95 minutes, last goal with a rebound from Perri to push into the net. The win increases SC Toronto’s lead in the First Division to seven points over Toronto Croatia and the league leaders have a game in hand. Serbian White Eagles earned an important three points with their 1-0 victory over TFC Academy to stay on the fringes of a playoff position in eighth place. It was a well-played scoreless first half, then midfielder Darryl Gomez found the net early in the second half to give the home side the win at Centennial Stadium. London City were full marks for their 2-0 defeat of still winless North York Astros in the game at the Cove in London, with Rogers Television reporting 13 scoring opportunities for the City in the first half. Forward Younan Samra hit the post in another attempt for London at 53 minutes, but three minutes later the home side found the net when midfielder Ermal Murataj scored from a goalmouth scramble. Goalkeeper Enea Perego looked sound in the North York goal, but he was beaten a second time when Younan Samra’s persistence paid off with a goal at 63 minutes and the 2-0 score remained until the final whistle. The Astros were playing with10 men for the last 12 minutes following the ejection of defender Maxim Dorneval who was shown a red card by referee Yusri Rudolf for serious foul play.
