SC TORONTO TUMBLE TO TORONTO CROATIA, CAPITAL CITY IMPRESSIVE 3-0 AND SHOOTERS DEFEATED 2-1 BY TFC SC Toronto took a rare tumble with a 4-2 loss to Toronto Croatia in CSL games Sunday, while Capital City FC were impressive in their 3-0 victory over Montreal Impact Academy and in one other game, TFC Academy upset York Region Shooters, 2-1. SC Toronto have been superb in conceding just nine goals in 16 games going into Sunday’s game, but found themselves down 4-0 in the second half against Toronto Croatia at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke. Croatia midfielder Augustin de Medina opened the scoring for the home side at seven minutes from a direct free kick well outside the penalty box and Bozenko Lesina made it 2-0 eight minutes later. Hayden Fitzwilliams increased the lead to 3-0 when he beat SC Toronto goalkeeper Scott Cliff with a low shot into the bottom left corner at 32 minutes and that was the score at half-time. Tihomir Maletic increased the Croatia lead to 4-0 at 53 minutes, his sixth goal of the season, before the league leaders struck for their first goal at 69 minutes when midfielder Alon Badet found the net past Croatia ‘keeper Antonio Ilic and this was followed by a second goal for the visitors by Alexandros Halis who headed past Ilic at 89 minutes for a 4-2 final score. The win puts Toronto Croatia within four points of leaders SC Toronto, both team have played 17 games. Following early pressure by the home side, Capital City FC took the lead at the 36th minute mark when a drive by Sullivan Silva was saved by Montreal goalkeeper Domenic Provost, but the rebound was picked up by Collin Harrison to give the Ottawa team a 1-0 lead, the score at half-time. Midfielder Emir Zrnic made it 2-0 at 66 minutes, he picked up a through ball from the right wing by Kenny Caceros to lift the ball over the oncoming Provost into the net. While Montreal fought back to get back into the game, it was Capital City that again found the net on a goal at 82 minutes by forward Akil DeFreitas who took a corner kick from Caceros to score from 15 yards, his sixth of the season to increase the score to 3-0. It was Capital City’s tenth win of the season and a seventh clean sheet for goalkeeper Irwin on a day designated Ottawa Emergency Services Appreciation Day which boosted the crowd for an entertaining, well-played encounter. York Region Shooters suffered a set-back in their home clash with TFC Academy at the St. Joan of Arc ground in Maple and it started with an opening goal by TFC’s Tristan Jackman at the 9th minute mark. Striker Stefan Vukovic drove a low shot into the net past Shooters’ goalkeeper Camilo Benzi at 24 minutes, his 14 goal of the season for a 2-0 score at the break. York Region fought to get back into contention during the second half, but it was 91 minutes before the home side found the net – it came on a goal by defender Ricky Herron and the final whistle came with the score at 2-1.
