Attendance was about 125 on this mild evening although it get get colder after the sun went down.

This was the first game of the season for both teams. Both teams have to work on their timing as there were a lot of offsides called especially in the first half.

Listed as the head coach for White Eagles this year is Uros Stamatovic who was a midfielder for the team for as long as they have been in this league. SWE road kit is all red this year.

Nikola Milosevic was the star of the game with good defensive play (he is a defender) along with Milos Vucinic, Ricardo Munguia and Mirko Medic limiting the shots that Shooters were able to get away at all. Milos Djurkovic earned the shutout. Kiril Dimitrov took most of the set pieces and continuously worked the wing and sent in crosses.

Best scoring chances were at 10 minutes when YRS Mario Orestano blasted a 25 yard shot down the middle off the underside of the bar which a defender then conceded a cornerkick. Orestano drew a Yellow card for complaining to the linesman that the play should have been a goal because he thought it bounced downward over the goal line. At 15 minutes SWE Milos Scepanovic rushed to the center of the field at 20 yards then sent a short pass to SWE Kiril Dimitrov on the left who blasted a 15 yarder that the flying goalie palmed over the bar. At 84 minutes YRS Ajani Stapleton took a long throw-in from the right that had the ball headed along the edge of the 18 yard box and YRS Orestano sent a low 22 yard shot through a crowd of players that the diving goalie pushed wide right of the post. In added on time SWE captain Alex Braletic ran to the right end line and sent a low cross from 5 yards that the goalie dived forward and caught ahead of Scepanovic who was waiting for a tap-in.

Referee was Sylviu Petrescu who controlled the game well but had to give out some cards mostly in the second half with dangerous tackles. He was the referee of the MLS game on Friday in Portland between the Timbers and Philadelphia Union.

Striker Sasa Viciknez was listed as a sub for White Eagles but didn't get into the game. I asked about Shooters defender Rick Titus who was not listed on the game roster (but message board readers are always asking about him). YRS co-owner Cindy DeThomasis said he's not with the team right now, but that doesn't mean he may not be back but he's deeply involved with North Mississauga Soccer Club. I see their website lists him as Director of Competitive Programs.

There was a moment of silence for long time Shooters team official Ruben Toro who passed away suddenly a few months ago.
