May 8, 2011 CSL--summary of Sunday's games (from CSL website)
MISSISSAUGA EAGLES, SERBIAN EAGLES BOTH RECORD AWAY WINS SUNDAY Monday, May 09, 2011 Mississauga Eagles FC opened their account in the Canadian Soccer League with a 2-1 victory over TFC Academy at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke, while Serbian White Eagles nipped their longstanding rivals York Region Shooters, 1-0, at the Joan of Arc ground in Maple, two games in the CSL Sunday night. The only goal at Maple came at 40 minutes from a corner kick taken by Eagles’ Kirie Dimitrov who dropped the ball on the other side of the goalmouth for Nikola Milosevic to tap into the net past Shooters’ goalkeeper Camelo Benzi. It was a well-played second half with most of the play in the midfield and few opportunities for either side to score. At Centennial Stadium in the second game of the night, Mississauga Eagles’ forward Roshard Gilbert opened the scoring at 14 minutes for the expansion team in their inaugural CSL season when he drove the ball into the net from 10 yards from a rebound off TFC goalkeeper Angelo Cavalluzzo. The play started on the left wing when Mississauga’s Nicolas Galle drove the ball at Cavalluzzo for the rebound. Just three minutes later, Mississauga Eagles made it 2-0 when Galle scored from the edge of the penalty box and the visitors looked much in command for most of the second half until TFC midfielder Sergio Camargo cut the Eagles’ lead to 2-1 with a goal at the 91st minute mark. The Mississauga Eagles FC 2-1 lead held to the final whistle. Mississauga Eagles FC, from the Erin Mills Soccer Club, play their home opener at the Hershey Centre on Saturday, May 14 when they host Montreal Impact Academy, while TFC Academy visit North York Astros at Esther Shiner Stadium the following day Sunday. Serbian White Eagles are at Lions Park in Brantford where they visit CSL champions Brantford Galaxy on Sunday, May 15 and on the same night, York Region Shooters are at home in Maple to the visiting London City.
