Attendance was announced as 12178 on this mild evening with a slight wind from the East. The crowd started off small but grew as people arrived late through rush hour traffic for this early start. The north end and second tier of the west stands were the only places not filled.
Man of the Match was named as Dwayne DeRosario at the 87 minute mark. It would have been interesting to see if there'd be any change if a goal had been scored before the final whistle. DeRosario drew the biggest cheers of the evening for his crosses. He played for Toronto FC last year and the first two games of this year before being traded.
The Canada team had majority of possession but couldn't break into the Puerto Rico box with any control. Puerto Rico often had all their men behind the ball and Canada could pass among their own defenders in their own half but weren't good at moving up the middle. Head coach Stephen Hart at the press conference after the game said he instructed his player in the last ten minutes to rain crosses into the box to try something different but he said his players didn't do it.
Puerto Rico had almost no chances tonight but their best one was a 83 minutes when Canadian goalie Lars Hirshfeld had to make a shoulder save on Andres Perez from 8 yards. Canada did not have many chances either and their best was at 54 minutes when Simeon Jackson shot from 8 yards on the left and the goalie blocked it on the near post.
The result eliminates Puerto Rico who have a record of 3 ties and 1 loss. Canada's record is 3 wins and 1 tie. The result of the St Lucia vs St Kitts game was not known at the time this game ended but it turned out to be a tie. Canada has a four point advantage on St Kitts and both their games remaining in this group are against each other.
