Attendance was announced as 11500 on this warm and humid evening with overcast skies. A pregame hard rain had ensured that the grass field was slippery. Attendance was I'd say over 90% Canadian fans with what looked like the south endzone (cheap seats) sold out and maybe a hundred St Lucian fans in the north endzone (cheap seats). It was announced that among the soccer clubs attending, SC Toronto was here, but meanwhile their senior team in the CSL was playing against Windsor Stars at that moment just across the railway tracks at Lamport Stadium. The soccer association of Guelph had the most tickets it was announced with 350 fans attending. Now that's how the CSA and OSA should ensure that Canadian fans are in the majority--sell them through the local soccer associations. Should all three home games in this round be played in Toronto? Well I heard because of the FIFA draw being made on such short notice and the logistics of calling the players in from Europe, there wasn't time to consider anywhere else, but for this round it so far is a success. Now next round--with bigger ethnic communities in the GTA for their opponents--it would be wise to spread the games to other cities.

Canadian forward Dwayne DeRosario was named the Man of the Match. This was announced at the 87 minute mark which was before the last goal but I feel the choice was a good decision. He had a goal and an assist and sent in crosses and cornerkicks into the box for his teammates as well as taking some effective shots on his own.

Canada had by the most opportunities but struggled to score and came out of the first half with a 1-1 tie. They were called offside five times in the first half and eight for the entire game. There were a lot of nervous reporters in the press box between the halfs. They dominated the second half by continuing to stress ball possession and wore down the visitors. Head coach Stephen Hart said he wasn't worried and new the goals would come eventually. He said the players tried to win it in the first 15 minutes. Tonight was Canada's opening game of a long process (possibly 22 games) towards World Cup qualifying for Brazil 2014. They must win this group which also contains Puerto Rico and St Kitts & Nevis. Those two teams played to a 0-0 tie which helps Canada because they only earn one point each. Canada's next group game is against Puerto Rico this upcoming Tuesday. It is a road game against what is expected to be their toughest opponent.
