Attendance was not announced but the stats listed it as 19843 on this warm evening.
The Man of the Match (who is always a TFC player) was forward Danny Dichio for the second home game in a row but in both these games he scored a goal. Before the game, Amado Guevara was awarded the Esquire TFC Player for the Month as chosen by the fans. Sam Cronin scored his first goal of his MLS career with a rebound of the stopped missed penalty kick. Dichio's goal was also a rebound after a save. Marvell Wynne was away with the US team for the Confederations Cup in South Africa.
TFC finally found a team they could beat as the struggling Red Bulls hadn't won a road game since last year and are below them in the standings.
I was surprised in the mistakes that were made on the scoreboard here today. They got the graphics wrong on TFC players showing Nana Attakora's picture when it was time to introduce Dwayne DeRosario. The clock also stopped at 15:00 minutes which might have been one period of a lacrosse game which this stadium held earlier in the day. I was running a scoreboard at nearby Lamport Stadium in the afternoon for the CSL league and did better on its simple scoreboard.
Next up for TFC is a tip to Montreal to play the Impact for the Nutilife Canadian Championship. If TFC doesn't win by four goals, the trophy will go to Vancouver Whitecaps on goal difference. The next league game will be Wednesday June 24, 2009 when TFC again plays New York Red Bulls in the league game that was actually scheduled for that night. It was today's game that was moved because of the scheduling conflict with bringing in Spanish giant Real Madrid for a friendly.
