Attendance was announced as 20272. The stands eventually filled in during the game. A lot of people in my section left before FC Dallas tied the game.
The day was very cool and windy although not as bad as last week's home opener. I was glad I wore my parka but didn't not have to put my gloves on this game.
TFC warmed up on the east side of the field this game so it was easy to see the players up close. Last week was the only time I remember them warming up on the west side maybe as partial shelter from the wind.
TFC's goal was a set piece involving Adrian Serioux taking a long throw-in and Dwayne DeRosario heading the ball into the net. Both these player's are new to the team this year after year's of Serioux playing for FC Dallas and DeRosario playing for San Jose and Houston Dynamo. Both players played on the USL Toronto Lynx but in different years.
FC Dallas had started the season with three losses in their three games up until today. I thought Toronto would win although they weren't playing well. They should have put this game away in the first half but Chad Barrett who has been struggling this season couldn't find the net again today. The stats showed TFC was outshot 7 to 2 in this game with no shots in the second half which made me have to think back of how bad they were. TFC gave up the tieing goal with 3 minutes left in the game which was a problem last year and may have cost them a playoff spot in 2008. This is a trend that had better be stopped. Dallas had a few times before their goal when they could have scored. I was thinking it would be the substitute Jeff Cunningham who would do it as a twist to him being traded away from Toronto last year when he was stuck on 99 league goals for weeks without scoring while with TFC. Once Dallas got the equalizer, they immediately subbed with defender Daniel Torres replacing forward Kenny Cooper who is the team's leading scorer. Cunningham had replaced defender Michael Dello-Russo at 73 minutes. I could see that Dallas were just trying to preserve the tie to get something positive for their season so far.
The Carlsberg Man of the Match (who is always a TFC player) was midfielder Sam Cronin. He has fit in well with the team and hasn't made rookie mistakes.
Next game for TFC is a rematch against FC Dallas in Dallas next Sunday. The game after that is against Chivas USA on Wednesday April 22nd at 7:00pm. Let's hope the transit service makes it easy to get to the game on time.
