Draw 1-1 in front of packed School Day crowd

Date: June 3, 2009
Venue: Ontario Soccer Centre, Vaughan, ON
Kick Off Time: 11:00 AM EDT

Final Score: Toronto 1 (0) London 1 (0)

Match Summary:

In the first ever regular season PDL derby between two Ontario teams, the Toronto Lynx and Forest City London battled to a one-all draw this afternoon in front of an overflow crowd at the Ontario Soccer Centre. Jordan Webb’s second-half goal drew the Lynx even with their guests, and improved their record to 0-1-2 (1 point) on the campaign. London improves to 2-1-0 (7 points) in their expansion season.

After a tentative first half in which neither team was able to establish themselves over their opponents, London opened the second period quickly and scored within the first minute. Forward Kevin Zimmermann beat Nils Binstock in the Lynx goal for his third goal of the season, and London went 1-0.

The lead was short-lived, as the Lynx clawed back fiercely following the London strike. Adrian Butters found Webb unmarked, and the rookie midfielder buried the ball for his first career goal in the 57th minute. The strike sent the 1,000-plus students on hand for School Day into a frenzy and levelled the match at one.

The two teams traded chances and tough tackles for the remainder of the match, but neither squad could finish and the match ended all square at one.

The match was moved at the last minute to the Ontario Soccer Centre after completion of the new artificial surface at Centennial Park Stadium was not completed on schedule.

The Lynx head to Barrie for their next home match, this coming Saturday night at 7:00 PM at the Barrie Community Sports Complex against the Cincinnati Kings. Tickets for the match may be purchased by calling the Lynx ticket hotline at 416-251-4625 x 31, or at the stadium one hour prior to kickoff.
