Attendance was about 125 on this hot afternoon with the sun in the west and wind from the north.

The game was very even with both teams getting many chances but it was heartbreaking for the Lady Lynx to lose so late in the game with them having more chances in the last ten minutes to increase their lead. The best one was at 87 minutes when Flash Rosa Anna Tantillo took a cornerkick from the left had charging defender Clare Rustad chests ball down and clears to Bryana McCarthy on fast break clearance and after a long run her 20 yard shot on the left hits the upper side of the bar.

Referee Patricia Peebles gave out no cards in today’s game.

The Flash had won the day before in Buffalo when they beat Laval and passed the Lady Lynx in the standings with a game in hand. The Flash are third in the standings of the Great Lakes Division and only three teams will make the playoffs with the Lady Lynx in fourth. The two ties they had earlier this year with London Gryphons is hurting them as it’s the only points that London has earned this season.

The Flash only brought four subs today. They are a pro team with an average age of about 23 or 24 whereas the amateur Lady Lynx are mostly 19 and 20. A full bench and a younger team on this hot day were promising for the Lady Lynx. Portuguese international Maria Ruiz is tied for 8th in the league with 12 points (five goals and two assists) in scoring. Flash defender Alexandra Sahlen is also the CEO and president of the team.

Best players today for each team were Bryana McCarthy who had many good chances and was the dead ball specialist. Ameera Abdullah was best for the Flash with her dribbling and passing.

Lady Lynx had their 2007 and 2008 MVPs starting today on the bench. They are Adrienne Ruhe Lischke and Stefania Morra respectively. Alyssa Lagonia who played a few minutes of the Canada vs USA national team exhibition game last month at BMO Field in Toronto was also on the bench. Adrienne’s brother Alex was the MVP of the male Lynx team in 2007 and I found out today had he joined the Army.

The next Lady Lynx home game is not until Wednesday July 8th at 11:00am at Centennial Park Stadium against Laval Comets. With the strike of the city workers of Toronto just starting on Monday, the team so far doesn’t know where they will play their games. Although they’ve played games outside the city, their remaining games are all at Centennial Stadium.
