2009-09-19

Trois-Rivieres Attak nipped Brampton Lions 2-1 at Trois-Rivieres Saturday, to finish first in the overall CSL standings, while TFC Academy rocked North York Astros with six second half goals for an 8-0 victory at Esther Shiner Stadium, all four teams completing their regular league season schedule.

Pierre-Rudolph Mayard opened the scoring for Trois-Riveires at the 27th minute mark and Guillaume Heroux made it 2-0 at 59 minutes.

Brampton fought back in the second half and were rewarded with a goal by forward Alex Arbello who scored from the penalty spot at 63 minutes following a hand ball in the box.

The win gives the Attak top position in the overall CSL standings to meet the eighth team of eight that have qualified for the playoffs. They ended the regular season with an impressive 12-4-2 WLT record.

The eighth position will be decided by the outcome of the. Italia Shooters vs. St. Catharines Wolves game being played at Maple on Sunday. A St. Catharines win or draw will put Portugal FC in eighth position, while a St. Catharines Wolves loss would place the Wolves at the bottom.

Brampton Lions completed their season with a 7-8-3 record and second position in the National Division unless St. Catharines defeat Italia Shooters Sunday, in which case the Lions would end up third.

Forward Allando Matheson struck a hat-trick in the 8-0 rout by TFC Academy over North York Astros at Esther Shiner Stadium, while Keith Makubuya netted a pair.

It was defender Doneil Henry who opened the scoring at just four minutes and Matheson scored his first at the 23rd minute mark for a 2-0 score at half-time.

Astros were reduced to 10 men at 53 minutes when defender Kurt Ramsey was shown the red card.

Matheson scored his second goal at 61 minutes and found the net for the hat-trick at 76 minutes. Five minutes later Jonathan Lao scored for TFC Academy to make it 5-0 at 81 minutes, Makubuya scored his first at 83 minutes and his second three minutes later for a 7-0 score and it was at 91 minutes that Nicholas Lindsay completed the scoring for an 8-0 final.

TFC Academy completed the season with a 6-7-5 record for 23 points and their final position in the National Division also rests on the Italia Shooters vs. St. Catharines Wolves result.

North York Astros completed their season with a 4-11-3 record for 15 points and fifth in the National Division standings.
