Attendance was about 80 people on this mild overcast day with a sprinkling of rain starting just before halftime. This was the first game held at Esther Shiner Stadium in over a month because of the City of Toronto workers strike. The Astros played their home games at Downsview Park which is a federally owned park. This game was taped for broadcast later in the day on Rogers Community television. Try to see it or the rebroadcast and fill in the missing assists if you can. The most noticeable difference in this game and the Real Madrid vs. Toronto FC game last night was not so much the inaccurate shooting but this game's number of offside calls.
This game was a surprise for me when the Astros started off so well with two goals so quickly. I expected Diego Maradona, Gershi Xhuti, and Adrian Pena would continue to run wild. Lions made an adjustment to a three man backline by ensuring a fourth defender was used and stopped the damage.
Referee Yusri Rudolph had a quiet game giving out only one Yellow card by my count.
After the national anthem a moment of silence was held for Nerio Valdez, a 17 year old player on the Astros reserve team who was murdered a week ago.
They had only won two games this year but those wins were within the last three weeks. The Lions are the team they have to catch to make the final playoff spot although Portugal FC is also a catchable team.
