TROIS-RIVIERES ATTAK WIN 3-2 IN ROUGH AND TUMBLE AFFAIR AT ST. CATHARINES......Toronto Croatia still unbeaten with 3-0 victory over London and even more goals as Serbian Eagles win a resounding 6-3 over Brampton Lions
2009-07-24

It was a rough and tumble Friday night in the CSL with a 3-2 Trois-Rivieres victory in a red card encounter at St. Catharines, a 6-3 victory for Serbian White Eagles over Brampton Lions, and in one other game, a still unbeaten Toronto Croatia blanked London City 3-0 at Cove Road in London.

Most of the rough and tumble took place at Club Roma in St. Catharines where the home side went down 3-2, lost three players from red cards and referee Geoff Gamble ejected Wolves' head coach James McGillivray following the final whistle.

Trois-Rivieres pressed early, but the home side took the lead at 7 minutes from a 20 yard drive by defender Danny Gallagher and it was not until 32 minutes that Trois-Rivieres tied the game 1-1 on a strike by midfielder Kevin Cossette. The Attak took a 2-1 lead at 54 minutes, a goal by forward Mircea Ilcu, his fourth of the season, and the Wolves tied the game 2-2 at 67 minutes on a goal by Calvin Rosario. Trois-Rivieres came back quickly when forward Reda Agourram, the league’s leading goalscorer with 11 to his credit, beat St. Catharines’ goalkeeper Claudio Perri for the winning goal at the 69th minute mark.

The game was quick and entertaining but became physical as the game progressed. Referee Gamble did not like a two-footed challenge from behind by St. Catharines’ midfielder Rudy Pikuzinski who was ejected at 37 minutes for the offence, but late in the game with the Attak leading 3-2, the game quickly deteriorated and Gallagher was red-carded at the 82nd minute and three minutes later he was accompanied by Wolves’ midfielder Matthew Stillman.

Coach James McGillivray was ejected after the final whistle when referee Gamble considered the protests out of hand.

Trois-Rivieres Attak jump to 21 points to lead the National Division as a result of the win, that’s now eight points in front of the Wolves.

Toronto Croatia won their seventh game of the season and remain unbeaten following their 3-0 victory over London City and it was forward Tihomir Maletic with two goals who did most of the damage for the visitors. Maletic opened the scoring at the 6th minute mark, and scored again in the second half. A strike also by Hayden Fitzwilliams made sure of the win, a 3-0 result at the final whistle.

London City’s Erik Elmauer was ejected after receiving a second yellow card at the 87th minute mark.

Toronto Croatia have an impressive 7-0-2 WLT record for 23 points in the International Division, that’s six points in front of Serbian White Eagles following their resounding 6-3 win over Brampton Lions.

Serbian Eagles took a quick 2-goal lead at Victoria Park on Dixie Day in Brampton where a good crowd was treated to a well-played, entertaining encounter on Dixie Day, an event that brought out youth teams from the Dixie Soccer Club in neighboring Mississauga.

Striker Alex Braletic hit the first at 10 minutes and Sasa Viciknez scored from the penalty spot two minutes later. Brampton forward Augustin De Medina made it 2-1 at 21 minutes and David Guzman tied the score 2-2 for Brampton at 30 minutes, his sixth of the season.

Forward Shane Lammie put Serbia 3-2 up at 42 minutes, Braletic made it 4-2 at 46 minutes, Lammie struck his second and Serbian Eagles’ fifth at 60 minutes and five minutes later Andrew Da Silva found the net for Brampton, a 5-3 score at 65 minutes.

At the 79th minute mark Dragan Radovic rounded out the scoring for Serbian White Eagles, a 6-3 result at the whistle.
