LATE EQUALIZER GIVES ASTROS A 2-2 TIE WITH ST. CATHARINES WOLVES.....Trois-Rivieres Attak down London City 6-0 to lead National Division

2009-07-05

A goal with just seconds remaining gave North York Astros a well-deserved 2-2 tie with St. Catharines Wolves at Downsview Park in north Toronto, while Trois-Rivieres were too strong for visiting London City with a 6-0 victory for the home side, two games played in the CSL Saturday.

Midfielder Scott MacLennan struck for St. Catharines just two minutes after the kickoff, a left foot drive that left Astros’ goalkeeper Arthur Zaslavski with no chance when the ball entered the net just inside the post.

Wolves’ midfielder Matt Stillman made it 2-0 for the visitors at 41 minutes and two minutes later North York Astros scored when Stefan Zlatanov found the net to reduce the lead to 2-1.

St, Catharines fought to hold the lead in the second half but with just seconds remaining in four minutes of added time St. Catharines defender Joe Conte headed an Astros’ free kick into his own net to level the score at 2-2.

North York Astros scored a disallowed goal in each half, the tie provided the team with its first point of the season for an 0-5-1 WLT record. St. Catharines now have a 3-1-2 record for 11 points in the National Division.

Trois- Rivieres Attak were too much for London City, the Quebec side defeating London 6-0 in the second game played in the Canadian Soccer League Saturday. The Attak lead the National Division with a 5-2-0 record for 15 points.
