Veteran Andrew Loague is London City’s new head coach

When Sean Gauss decided to step down as head coach of London City of the Canadian Soccer League he was hoping quietly that one of the most popular veteran players ever to wear a City uniform would take over.
It came to pass this week when the younger Gauss decided to call it quits and brother Ryan Gauss, the club’s CEO and general manager, was quick to offer the top coaching job to Andrew Loague who joined the club back in 1993 as a striker and has been scoring goals and with the fans ever since.
While some will offer the proverbial he knows where the net is, others will tell you Andrew Loague knows every blade of grass on the Cove Road surface. Despite the struggle to eke out wins in 2008, Loague struck 14 goals, more than half of the team’s total.
Loague up until now has been a coaching consultant with London City and just shy of 40 he’s the club’s oldest player and has been for some time now.
Ryan Gauss with the help of head coach Sean has pulled the team through a difficult period in London City’s history – the club was formed back in 1973 – and he thinks the tough times are over.
“Sean has soldiered on with the team through a very difficult time for the club and my family and I now believe the groundwork has been laid for a brighter future. Andrew will be part of a new era, really.”
Loague takes over immediately and will be in his new role for the game against CSL champions Serbian White Eagles on June 26. With the Serbian team now hitting its best stride – five goals in the first half of a 5-2 victory over a tenacious and talented TFC Academy side last weekend – the London City support will be hoping for an auspicious coaching debut.
Whatever the outcome, Andrew Loague is guaranteed lots of support from hometown fans that have followed his soccer career over many years now.
