PORTUGAL FC DEFEAT NORTH YORK ASTROS 2-1 SATURDAY..........in Friday games Serbian White Eagles score five in first half to defeat TFC Academy, 5-2, and Trois-Rivieres blank London City 2-0

Portugal FC scored a 2-1 victory over North York Astros Saturday afternoon, while on Friday Serbian White Eagles defeated TFC Academy 5-2, and in one other game played in the CSL Friday, Trois-Rivieres Attak shutout London City 2-0 at the Cove Road ground in London.

Gustava Serrano opened the scoring at 17 minutes for Portugal FC in Saturday’s game played at Esther Shiner Stadium and Ramon Bailey made it 2-0 for the visitors at 36 minutes, the score at half-time.

The Astros fought to get back into the game after the interval and their midfielder Diego Maradona found the net at the 51st minute mark to make it 2-1, a score that held up until the final whistle.

The victory moves Portugal into second position in the International Division and their next game is against divisional rivals Italia Shooters next Sunday, June 28 at Maple, a 5 pm kickoff.

North York Astros will return to Esther Shiner Stadium for their next game, a clash with Toronto Croatia next Saturday, June 27 with a 3 o’clock start.

There were five scorers for Serbian Eagles in their first win of the current campaign – they earlier in the season tied one and lost one – and the CSL champions had the game wrapped up with a 5-0 lead at the interval.

Midfielder Kiril Dimitrov opened the scoring for Serbia at the 11th minute mark, a header from a left wing cross that beat TFC Academy ‘keeper Soitiri Varlokostas and the second goal came seven minutes later, an easy tap in by striker Sasa Viciknez.

Eagles’ defender Uros Stamatovic made it 3-0 at 34 minutes, defender Thierry Mangwa hit the fourth at 36 minutes and forward Jonathan Hurtis rounded the Serbian White Eagles scoring at 41 minutes for a 5-0 lead at half-time.

The academy side pressed in the second half and striker Allando Matheson found the net for the TFC side at the 60th minute mark and their determination paid off with a second goal, this time by midfielder James Stamopoulos who beat Serbian goalkeeper Marko Petrovic at 80 minutes for a 5-2 final.

The visiting TFC side lost midfielder Brennan McNicoll who was ejected by referee R Zomparelli close to half-time.

Trois-Rivieres Attak striker Reda Aggourram did the damage for the visiting team in their 2-0 victory over London City, he scored just before the break at 42 minutes and again just after play resumed at 46 minutes.

There is one game in the CSL Saturday when Portugal FC visit the Astros at Esther Shiner Stadium, a 3 p.m. start.
