DELPRIORE STRIKES BOTH GOALS IN A 2-1 ST. CATHARINES VICTORY OVER PORTUGAL FC FOR TOP SPOT IN THE NATIONAL DIVISION

2009-06-17

St. Catharines Wolves midfielder Joe Delpriore led his team to the top of the National Division by scoring both goals in a 2-1 victory over Portugal FC at Club Roma in St. Catharines Wednesday night.

Delpriore opened the scoring for the home side at the 28th minute mark, but a goal by Portugal FC midfielder Taylor Lord tied the game for a 1-1 score at the interval.

Delpriore scored the winner at 75 minutes when he put the ball out of reach of Portugal FC 'keeper Mike Silva and the Wolves held on for the three points.

The win means a three-game winning streak for the Wolves, a 3-0-1 WLT record for 10 points and the top spot in the National Division. Their next game is at Trois-Rivieres, Quebec for a clash with the Attak on June 27.

Portugal FC now have a 1-1-2 record for five points and third position in the International Division. The Toronto team will visit Esther Shiner Stadium in North York for a game with the Astros on Saturday. That's a 3 pm kickoff.
