2009-06-08

Two second half goals by forward Hugo Herrera meant victory for Toronto Croatia in their home encounter with Brampton Lions at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke Sunday night, the only game in the CSL which ended in a 4-0 result for the home side.

Herrera scored at 47 and 77 minutes following a 1-0 Croatia lead at half time. It was an opening goal at eight minutes when Brampton’s Daniel Cameira put the ball into his own net in an attempt to clear a Toronto Croatia attack

With the score at 3-0, Croatia midfielder Hayden Fitzwilliams added a fourth at the 92nd minute mark when he cut in from the left wing to beat Lions’ goalkeeper Kevin Doyle.

Croatia goalkeeper Sandi Matika was called upon to make a few saves but following half-time the game was not in doubt with Croatia having a decided edge in the play.

Toronto Croatia, unbeaten in early season games, face a tough task next Saturday when they meet CSL champions Serbian White Eagles at Lamport Stadium a 3 pm kickoff. Brampton Lions are at home to Italia Shooters the following day, a 3 pm kickoff at Victoria Park in Brampton.
