Attendance was announced as 19816. My row was filled for the first time this year but I thought there may be slightly less than 10% empty seats. There were less people here than the weekend game played during the transit strike. Biggest cause I saw might have been the threat of rain for the day which stopped my note taking for the last half hour of the game (I filled them in by playing back the TV broadcast when I got home). Also some survey last year said that fans would be happier with 7:30pm starts on week night games. With the game being broadcast for the American network ESPN2, a later start was not an option. I noticed many fans didn't arrive until well into the first half.
The Carlsberg Man of the Match (which always goes to a TFC player) was awarded to Marvell Wynne.
Fans started a chant of "Marco Polo" a few times in the game but subbing in "Velez" as the answer to "Marco".
Both goals tonight were the result of dead ball plays. The Red Bull goal looked somewhat like Laurent Robert's goal against Salt Lake in the home opener. Dave van den Bergh ran in from an angle to take it while Mike Magee looked like he was going to take it straight ahead. The wall jumped and the ball when under them and low into the net. Marco Velez's goal came when he stepped away from the pack of players waiting just inside the box and was all alone on the right post waiting for the freekick cross to make an easy header into the net.
I couldn't catch a streetcar to exit the park. There were about 400 people waiting to crowd on one Union Station bound streetcar and one Bathurst Station stretch streetcar. I started walking in the light rain and wasn't passed by anything and made my way over to Osgoode subway station. That's a one hour walk of 4 km. I didn't walk down King because I expected crowds would have been on that route waiting at Dufferin. Queen seemed more of a chance of getting on but nothing passed me.
