Match Summary:

The Toronto Lynx capped off Bolton Soccerfest in a dominating fashion, blasting the Indiana Invaders 4-0 at Edelweiss Park in Bolton. The win raises the Lynx’ record to 7-5-2 (23 points) on the year, while Indiana falls to 5-5-3 (18 points) and remains ensconced in third place in the Midwest Division. Kevin Omokhua, Daniel Revivo, Lloyd Grist and Jean Tshimpaka all tallied for the Lynx in the win, while keeper Nils Binstock earned the clean sheet in net in his return following a one-match ban.

The match began on a wet pitch, the result of a torrential downpour which started to fall almost immediately after the completion of the Lady Lynx’ 4-3 victory over Western Mass which kicked off the afternoon doubleheader. Toronto was able to master the slippery pitch, and jumped to a comfortable 2-nil lead by the end of the first half.

Omokhua notched his first goal in a Lynx’ uniform with a brilliant strike in the 28th minute to open the scoring for Toronto. The veteran forward found a loose ball in the box and turned and struck the ball past the stunned Invaders keeper for the 1-0 lead for the Lynx. Revivo one-upped him thirteen minutes later with a stunning bicycle-kick goal. Tshimpaka penetrated deep into Indiana territory, and threaded a feed into the box. Revivo then leapt into the air, and scissored the ball into the net, sending the crowd into a frenzy and sending the Lynx into the break with a 2-nil advantage. The goal was Revivo’s fifth of the year, putting him in the team lead with only two matches left to play.

The second half brought more of the same, with the Lynx controlling the pace of play and spending the bulk of the time deep inside Indiana territory. Toronto iced the game late in the half with two goals in a four-minute span. Revivo found Grist all alone near the penalty spot, and the Welshman pounded it into the twine for the 3-0 lead in the 79th minute, before Tshimpaka closed the scoring for the match, converting a Cameron Alksnis pass into his third of the year. Binstock picked up his fourth shutout of the year between the posts in the victory.

Toronto returns to action on Wednesday morning at 11:00 AM when they host the Cincinnati Kings at Varsity Centre for the team’s annual Youth Day matinee. The Lynx then wrap up their 2008 regular season on Sunday July 20 against the Central Conference leading Michigan Bucks at 4:00 PM at Varsity in a match that could have deep playoff implications. Tickets for both matches can be purchased through the Lynx’ ticket office at 416-251-4625 x 31 or at the Varsity Centre one hour prior to each kick-off.
