Match Summary:

The Toronto Lynx were unable to capitalize tonight on the momentum gained by their stunning upset of the Michigan Bucks Thursday and dropped a 4-1 decision to the Fort Wayne Fever in Indiana. The Fever shocked the Lynx with four first-half goals, and the Lynx could not recover from the huge deficit. The loss drops the Lynx to 5-3-2 (17 points) on the campaign, but the club retains second place in the Great Lakes Division, 2 points ahead of the idle Cleveland Internationals. Fort Wayne raises their record to 2-6-2 on the year, good for fourth place in the Midwest Division.

Toronto opened slowly on a waterlogged pitch, a result of the Fort Wayne area being battered by severe thunderstorms throughout the day. The Fever created three chances early, and converted each time against a stunned Lynx defense and putting Toronto in a quick 3-0 hole. Vince Petrasso pulled the Lynx back within 2 goals as the half winded down with his second marker of the season, but the Fever responded quickly to re-establish the three-goal margin before half, taking a 4-1 lead into the locker-room.

The Lynx rebounded positively after the intermission, completely dominating the entire second of play and limiting the Fever to very little possession, but Toronto was unable to finish their many chances and could not score. The game ended with the 4-1 scoreline standing and the Lynx fell to defeat.

Toronto hits the road for one match, traveling to Grand Rapids next Thursday to meet the West Michigan Edge before returning home on Tuesday July 1 to battle the Cleveland Internationals in the “Steeltown Showdown” at Brian Timmis Stadium in Hamilton at 4:00 PM. The game will be preceded by a pair of Hamilton Spectator Cup all-star games (boys and girls).
