Another strong second half performance gives Lynx third consecutive victory

Match Summary:
The Toronto Lynx claimed yet another victory this evening with a 3-1 win over the host Cincinnati Kings in suburban Wilder, Kentucky. The win extends the Lynx winning streak to three games, and the club continues on its red-hot start to the 2008 PDL season, with four wins in five matches out of the gate. Daniel Revivo, Erik DiLorenzo and Chris DeAbreu posted goals in the victory, while Nils Binstock earned his fourth win in net for the Lynx. Toronto raises their record to 4-1-0 (12 points) and vaults into second place in the Great Lakes Division, while the Kings fall to 2-4-0 (6 points) on the year, and remain in fourth place in the division.
Toronto opened strong and took control of the match early, on a Revivo goal in the 18th minute. Midfielder Damion Scott found Revivo on the edge of the penalty area and sent a quick pass his direction. Revivo then beat one man and launched a low drive past the Kings keeper into the net for his team-leading third of the year.
The Lynx continued to press looking for additional goals as the half progressed, but were consistently denied by the plucky Kings defense. Toronto was unlucky to concede a goal just before the break to allow Cincinnati to tie the match at 1-all. The Lynx gained a corner kick as the half wound down, and the Kings dropped all but one player into the box to defend the kick. The ball was headed clear from danger by the Kings defense to Jimmy Cummings, the lone Cincinnati player left upfield. The midfielder won possession and went clear on goal, beating Binstock on the breakaway to even the match as time expired.
Toronto retained their composure, and picked up the attack once again following halftime. Captain DiLorenzo took the lead back for the Lynx in the 74th minute with his first career goal. The defender won possession of the ball at half, and drove wide into Cincinnati territory. He proceeded to beat a Kings defender wide with a quick deke and then managed pulled the keeper out of position. The Bolton native then was able to slot the ball into the goal with a decisive right-footed blast to regain a one-goal lead for Toronto.
After Cummings was ejected from the match following his second yellow on the evening for Cincinnati, Toronto was able to maintain control for the remainder of the match. DeAbreu added an insurance marker in the 84th minute when he fielded a Revivo feed between two Kings defenders, beat the keeper and slammed his second goal of the season into the empty net. The goal put the Lynx up 3-1 and locked up the result for the young Lynx squad.
Head Coach Duncan Wilde was ecstatic following the match, proud of the effort his team has put forth so far this year. “We’ve played two matches in three days on this road trip, both in extreme heat, and we’ve managed to gain two quality victories. Our young rookies have stepped up and shown that they are ready to compete at the PDL level, and also shown to me that they are prepared to work hard in both practices and games to do what it takes for us to win. We have our sights set on a playoff berth this year and these wins this week have gone a long way to helping us reach that goal.”
Toronto hits the road once again for a pair of away matches next week, with stops in Chicago on Wednesday evening and Indiana against the Invaders on Friday night before returning home on Sunday afternoon, June 15, to host the West Virginia Chaos at 4:00 PM at Centennial Park Stadium.
