Match Summary:

The Toronto Lady Lynx extended their season-opening winning streak to four games this afternoon with a 3-0 white-washing of the Vermont Lady Voltage at Centennial Park Stadium. Toronto raises their record to 4-0-0 (12 points) and sit alone atop the Northern Division table while Vermont drops to 0-5-0 (0 points) to open the campaign, and are still in search of their first goal. The Lady Voltage also remain winless all-time against Toronto, with the Lady Lynx holding a 7-0-1 record against them over four seasons. Stefania Morra, Alicia Donaldson and Victoria Miliucci scored for the Lady Lynx, while Elise Kuhar-Pitters earned the shutout in her W-League debut.

The match was the second half of a home-and-home match, which in the first game saw the Lady Lynx defeat Vermont 3-0 in St. Albans last Saturday in a very physical match. The two teams resumed hostilities from the opening whistle, and the tough play carried over into the rematch. Toronto remained focused on the task at hand, however, and took the lead late in the second half on the strength of two quick strikes from their forwards. Morra opened the scoring in the 35th minute when she headed home her second strike of the season. Hayley MacDonald stripped a Vermont defender of the ball, and fed Donaldson, but her shot was stopped on a great save by Vermont keeper Catherine Cadieux. Morra then jumped to head the rebound with Cadieux, beat the keeper to the ball and knocked it into the goal for a 1-0 Toronto lead. Morra suffered a facial injury in the collision, and left the match shortly after.

Donaldson extended the lead four minutes later with her team-leading third of the year. The young striker stole the ball deep in Lady Voltage territory and blasted the ball with laser-like precision into the top corner to double the Lady Lynx lead.

Toronto put the game away early in the second half when Victoria Miliucci notched her first career goal. Alyssa Lagonia’s corner was headed clear by a Vermont defender right to the rookie, who volleyed the ball calmly into the twine, putting Toronto up 3-0. The Lady Lynx continued to press and dominated the remainder of the game, and Vermont never really threatened to score, with Toronto outshooting their guests 16-3 on the afternoon. Kuhar-Pitters picked up the clean sheet on a quiet afternoon for her in her first start for the Lady Lynx.

Toronto hits the road for their next four matches, with stops in London, Hamilton, Ottawa and Laval before returning home on June 22 against their bitter rivals the Ottawa Fury at 4:00 PM at Varsity Centre. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Lynx ticket hotline at 416-251-4625 x 31, or at the Varsity Centre box office one hour prior to kickoff.
